What We Offer

Process

If you are facing financial difficulties and are serious about addressing them, call our freephone number: 0800 612 7163. This is what will happen next:

  • We will set up a meeting for you with two of our trained advisors.
  • At your first appointment, the advisors will ask you about your financial situation and what it is you would like to achieve.
  • You will probably need to find out some more information before your next meeting. For example, we might ask you to find out how much your living costs are for a week.
  • Together with you, we will then work out how much money you have coming in each month, how you can budget to use this money effectively to cover your living costs, and how to pay off any outstanding debts. This information will be entered into a form known as a ‘financial statement.’
  • We can speak to any lenders on your behalf, show them your financial statement and try to agree with them how you are going to pay them back the money you owe. We will continue to meet with you as often as necessary as you pay off your debts.

What to bring to your first meeting

If you have any of the following, bring them to your first meeting:

  • Payslips
  • Bank statements
  • Benefits information
  • Bills and invoices
  • Letters from debt collectors
  • Photo ID

Some things to bear in mind

  • Paying off your debts is a gradual process and can take a long time but financial freedom is achievable
  • It takes courage to face up to your financial situation
  • It is always better to face up to debts and money problems, rather than ignoring them

What we don’t do

We are a charity and our only reason for providing debt advice is to help people who need it. We do not charge for our services, which are provided by trained volunteers. We will not take any money off you and will not consolidate your debt. This means that all the payments are made by you: they do not come through us.

"It takes a lot of guts to face up to debt problems and we are here to support people who want to sort out their financial situation"
